Tankstations

Fuels and services vary by region but typically include petrol or gasoline and diesel. Many tankstations also provide LPG or CNG and electricity for EV charging. Some stations offer alternative fuels or blended options, and a growing number support automated fueling with self-service and pay-at-pump systems.

Ownership and operation vary: tankstations are operated by major oil companies, retail chains, or independent operators, sometimes under franchise arrangements. They can function as full-service outlets with attendant pumps or as self-service outlets, and many are open around the clock. Payment methods include cash, card, or mobile apps.

Safety and regulation are central to their operation. Standards cover handling and storage of flammable liquids, underground storage tanks, fire protection, and environmental protection. Facilities typically include leak detection, spill response plans, and regular inspections to ensure compliance with local laws.

Trends and regional differences reflect broader market changes. There has been consolidation and modernization, with increasing emphasis on self-service, digital payments, and loyalty programs. In many regions, networks are expanding to include widespread EV charging and convenience-store offerings, while in others independent stations remain common.
