Talukas

Taluka, also spelled taluk or taluke, is an administrative division in several South Asian countries, most notably in India. It is a subdivision of a district and typically comprises a group of villages and sometimes towns. The taluka acts as a local administrative and revenue unit, bridging district authorities and rural settlements.

Administration and officials: Each taluka is headed by a Tahsildar (also Tehsildar) who oversees revenue administration, land records, and civil matters within the taluka. The taluka office, sometimes called the taluka revenue office, supports the collector or district administration; subordinate officials such as Naib Tehsildars and Revenue Inspectors assist in duties.

Relation to district and state variations: A district is divided into several talukas. The exact nomenclature and structure vary by Indian state: taluk or taluka is common in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and some other states; in other states the unit is called tehsil or mandal.
