Takistusmõõtjad, also known as resistance meters or ohmmeters, are electronic instruments used to measure electrical resistance. Resistance is a property of materials that opposes the flow of electric current. Takistusmõõtjad are essential tools in various fields, including electronics, electrical engineering, and general maintenance.

The basic principle of operation for most takistusmõõtjad involves applying a known voltage or current to the component or circuit being measured and then determining the resulting current or voltage. Ohm's law (V = IR) is fundamental to these measurements, where V is voltage, I is current, and R is resistance. By measuring two of these parameters, the third can be calculated.

Modern takistusmõõtjad come in various forms, from simple handheld devices to sophisticated benchtop instruments. Handheld digital multimeters (DMMs) often include a resistance measurement function, allowing for convenient on-site checks. These devices typically display the resistance value digitally, often in ohms, kilohms, or megohms, depending on the range.

More advanced takistusmõõtjad may offer features such as auto-ranging, which automatically selects the appropriate measurement range, and data logging capabilities. They are used to diagnose faults in electrical circuits, verify the integrity of components like resistors and wires, and perform quality control checks. Calibration of these instruments is important to ensure accuracy.
