Taajuusmoodi

Taajuusmoodi, often translated as frequency mode or frequency division multiplexing (FDM), is a technique used in telecommunications and signal processing to transmit multiple signals over a single communication channel. It works by dividing the available bandwidth of the channel into several smaller, non-overlapping frequency bands. Each of these frequency bands is then assigned to a separate signal.

This method allows multiple independent signals to travel simultaneously over the same medium, such as a coaxial cable or an optical fiber, without interfering with each other. The key principle is that each signal occupies a distinct portion of the radio frequency spectrum. At the receiving end, filters are used to separate the signals based on their assigned frequency bands, allowing each signal to be processed individually.

Taajuusmoodi is widely employed in various applications. One of the most common examples is traditional radio broadcasting, where different radio stations transmit on different carrier frequencies within the broadcast spectrum. Another significant application is in cable television systems, where numerous television channels are transmitted over a single coaxial cable by assigning each channel to a specific frequency range. It is also used in some older forms of telephone systems and in various data transmission systems where the available bandwidth needs to be efficiently utilized. The effectiveness of taajuusmoodi relies on precise allocation of frequencies and the use of sharp filters to prevent crosstalk between adjacent channels.
