Töysä

Töysä is a former municipality of Finland. It was located in the province of Western Finland and was part of the Southern Ostrobothnia region. The municipality was established in 1865. In 2017, Töysä merged with Alavus to form the new municipality of Alavus.

The area of Töysä was characterized by its rural landscape, with a significant portion being agricultural land and forests. The main population center was the village of Töysä, which also served as the administrative center of the municipality. The Isojoki river flows through the area.

Historically, the economy of Töysä was based on agriculture and forestry. Over time, other industries also developed, though the municipality remained largely rural. The cultural heritage of the region reflects the traditions of Southern Ostrobothnia.

Before its merger with Alavus, Töysä had a population of approximately 3,000 residents. The municipality offered basic services to its inhabitants, including schools, healthcare, and municipal administration. The merger aimed to create a more viable administrative and economic unit by combining resources. The former Töysä municipality is now part of Alavus and continues to be a part of the Southern Ostrobothnia region.
