Säteilykovetteita, also known as radiation curable coatings or inks, are liquid formulations that harden rapidly when exposed to specific types of radiation. This process, called curing, involves initiating a polymerization reaction within the coating. The primary radiation sources used are ultraviolet (UV) light and electron beams (EB). UV curing relies on photoinitiators within the formulation that absorb UV photons and generate reactive species, typically free radicals or cations, which then propagate the polymerization chain reaction. EB curing uses high-energy electrons to directly initiate the polymerization process without the need for photoinitiators.

The composition of säteilykovetteita typically includes monomers and oligomers, which form the backbone of the hardened film, photoinitiators (for UV systems), pigments and fillers for color and properties, and various additives to control flow, adhesion, and other characteristics. These coatings offer several advantages, including very fast cure speeds, low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, high scratch and chemical resistance, and the ability to cure at low temperatures, making them suitable for heat-sensitive substrates. Applications are widespread, including printing inks, wood finishes, plastics coatings, adhesives, and 3D printing. The specific formulation is tailored to the intended application and the type of radiation used for curing.
