Sárrét

Sárrét is a geographical region located in eastern Hungary, primarily within the counties of Hajdú-Bihar and Békés. The name "Sárrét" translates to "muddy plain" or "marshy plain," which accurately describes its historical landscape. Historically, the area was characterized by extensive wetlands, marshes, and floodplains due to the confluence of several rivers, including the Körös and Berettyó. This environment was rich in biodiversity and provided ample resources for traditional livelihoods such as fishing, reed harvesting, and animal husbandry.

Over centuries, significant efforts have been made to drain and cultivate the land, transforming much of the original wetland into agricultural fields.
