Széndioxidé

Széndioxidé is the Hungarian word for carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a chemical compound with the formula CO2. It is a colorless gas with a density approximately 1.5 times that of air. Carbon dioxide is present in the Earth's atmosphere as a trace gas, making up 0.04% of the atmosphere by volume. It is a natural component of the carbon cycle.

In normal conditions, carbon dioxide is a gas. However, when cooled below its triple point of -56.6 °C (-69.8 °F) at a pressure of 5.185 atmospheres, it can form dry ice, which is the solid form of carbon dioxide. When allowed to warm at standard atmospheric pressure, dry ice sublimes directly into gas.

Carbon dioxide is a vital component for life on Earth. Plants use it during photosynthesis to convert light energy into chemical energy. It is also a greenhouse gas, meaning it traps heat in the atmosphere, contributing to the Earth's temperature regulation. Human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels, have significantly increased the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, leading to concerns about climate change.

Industrially, carbon dioxide is produced through various processes, including the combustion of organic materials and as a byproduct of chemical reactions. It has numerous applications, such as in the production of carbonated beverages, as a fire suppressant, and in refrigeration.
