Széndioxidmegkötés

Széndioxidmegkötés is the Hungarian term for carbon capture. It refers to a range of technologies and processes designed to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from various sources, such as industrial facilities and power plants, or directly from the atmosphere. The primary goal of carbon capture is to reduce the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere, thereby mitigating climate change.

There are several methods for capturing CO2. Post-combustion capture involves separating CO2 from the flue gases produced after fuel has been burned. Pre-combustion capture removes CO2 from the fuel before it is combusted. Oxy-fuel combustion burns fuel in a mixture of oxygen and recycled flue gas, which results in a more concentrated stream of CO2 that is easier to capture. Direct air capture (DAC) technologies extract CO2 directly from the ambient air, offering a way to address diffuse emissions and historical CO2 buildup.

Once captured, the CO2 can be transported, typically via pipelines or ships, for permanent storage or for utilization. Geological storage, also known as carbon sequestration, involves injecting CO2 into deep underground rock formations, such as depleted oil and gas reservoirs or saline aquifers. Utilization, or carbon capture and utilization (CCU), involves converting captured CO2 into valuable products like fuels, chemicals, or building materials. The effectiveness and economic viability of different carbon capture methods are subjects of ongoing research and development.
