Szublimálás, also known as sublimation, is a phase transition process where a solid substance transitions directly into a gas, bypassing the liquid phase. This phenomenon occurs when the temperature and pressure conditions are such that the solid can evaporate without first melting. Sublimation is a common process in nature and has various applications in industry and everyday life.

One of the most well-known examples of sublimation is dry ice, which is solid carbon dioxide. When dry ice is exposed to room temperature, it sublimates directly into carbon dioxide gas, leaving no liquid residue. This makes dry ice useful for creating fog effects in theaters and for preserving perishable items by keeping them at extremely low temperatures.

In the context of materials science, sublimation is used in processes like vacuum deposition, where a solid material is heated in a vacuum chamber and its molecules sublimate onto a cooler substrate, forming a thin film. This process can be particularly important in arid regions where the lack of liquid water means that sublimation is a primary way that water is removed from the environment.
