Széntárolás

Széntárolás refers to the process of storing and managing carbon, primarily in the context of mitigating climate change. This involves capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from industrial sources or directly from the atmosphere and then sequestering it in a way that prevents its release back into the environment.

The primary goal of széntárolás is to reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, thereby helping to combat global warming. Various methods are employed for carbon storage, including geological sequestration, where CO2 is injected deep underground into porous rock formations, often depleted oil and gas reservoirs or saline aquifers. Biological methods also play a role, such as afforestation and reforestation, which increase the amount of carbon stored in trees and soils. Ocean fertilization, while more controversial, aims to stimulate phytoplankton growth to absorb atmospheric CO2.

Széntárolás technologies are still under development and face challenges related to cost, scalability, and long-term security of storage. Monitoring and verification are crucial to ensure that stored carbon remains sequestered and does not leak back into the atmosphere. Research continues to explore new and more efficient ways to implement széntárolás as a climate change mitigation strategy.
