Sykdomsrespons, also known as disease response or immune response, refers to the body's complex biological reaction to harmful agents such as pathogens, toxins, or injuries. This process involves multiple components of the immune system working together to identify, attack, and eliminate the invading organisms or damaged cells, restoring health and maintaining homeostasis.

The immune response can be classified into two main types: innate and adaptive immunity. Innate immunity provides a rapid, non-specific defense mechanism that includes physical barriers like skin and mucous membranes, as well as immune cells such as macrophages, neutrophils, and natural killer cells. Adaptive immunity, on the other hand, is a more specialized and slower response that involves lymphocytes—B cells and T cells—which recognize specific antigens and generate immunological memory.
