Suutinkappillaari

Suutinkappillaari, also known as the "snowshoe harrier," is a small, migratory bird species native to the Arctic tundra of North America and Eurasia. It is a member of the Accipitridae family, which includes hawks, eagles, and other birds of prey. The species is characterized by its long, pointed wings and a distinctive white patch on its throat, which gives it its common name. Suutinkappillaari is known for its ability to navigate the harsh Arctic environment, where it feeds on small mammals, birds, and insects.

The breeding season for suutinkappillaari typically occurs in the late spring and early summer. The female lays a clutch of two to four eggs in a nest built on the ground or in a low shrub. Both parents take turns incubating the eggs and caring for the young. The chicks fledge after about 30 days, and both parents continue to provide food and protection for several weeks after they leave the nest.

Suutinkappillaari is a long-distance migrant, traveling thousands of miles between its breeding grounds in the Arctic and its wintering grounds in more temperate regions. The species is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, but it faces threats from habitat loss and climate change. Conservation efforts are focused on protecting the bird's breeding and wintering habitats and reducing human disturbance in the Arctic.
