Suurendustel

Suurendustel is an Estonian term related to magnification, referring to the level of enlargement produced when viewing an object through an optical device or in imaging. In everyday usage, suurendus describes how many times larger the image appears compared with the object's real size, and suurendustel is the form used in phrases that indicate specific magnification values or ranges.

In practice, magnification is most commonly discussed in microscopy, photography, and astronomy. In optical instruments, the total magnification is typically the product of the objective lens magnification and the eyepiece magnification. For example, a microscope with a 40x objective and a 10x eyepiece yields 400x magnification. Similarly, telescopes use similar principles to determine how large distant objects appear. Magnification helps observers see fine details, but it also affects other aspects of viewing, such as brightness and field of view.

A key distinction in the discussion of suurendustel is between magnification and resolution. Magnification makes an image appear larger, but the amount of detail that can be resolved depends on the optical system’s numerical aperture and the wavelength of light. Increasing magnification beyond the system’s resolving power yields diminishing returns, with a magnified but blurry image.
