Suorakulmioiden

Suorakulmioiden, known scientifically as rectangles, are fundamental geometric shapes. A rectangle is a quadrilateral, meaning it has four sides and four vertices. Its defining characteristic is that all four interior angles are right angles, measuring exactly 90 degrees. This property ensures that opposite sides of a rectangle are parallel and equal in length.

The area of a rectangle is calculated by multiplying its length by its width. If the length is denoted by 'l' and the width by 'w', the area 'A' is given by the formula A = l * w. The perimeter of a rectangle, which is the total length of all its sides, is found by adding the lengths of all four sides or by using the formula P = 2l + 2w, which simplifies to P = 2(l + w).

Rectangles possess two axes of symmetry that pass through the midpoints of opposite sides. Their diagonals are equal in length and bisect each other. Common examples of rectangles in everyday life include doors, windows, books, and many types of screens. Squares are a special case of rectangles where all four sides are of equal length.
