Sukusoluudeksi
Sukusoluudeksi is a Finnish term that translates to "gender identity" in English. It refers to an individual's deeply felt sense of being male, female, both, neither, or somewhere else along the gender spectrum. This internal experience of gender is distinct from biological sex assigned at birth, which is typically determined by physical characteristics. Gender identity is a personal and subjective aspect of self, and it may or may not align with the sex assigned at birth. For some individuals, their gender identity is consistent with their assigned sex, a state known as cisgender. For others, their gender identity differs from their assigned sex, and they identify as transgender. The term sukusoluudeksi encompasses the vast range of human gender experiences and acknowledges that gender is not a binary concept. Understanding sukusoluudeksi is crucial for fostering inclusivity and respecting the self-determination of individuals regarding their gender. It highlights the importance of using language that affirms a person's identity and acknowledges the diversity of gender expression and experience within society.
