Suitsusignaalid, also known as smoke signals, are a form of visual communication that has been used by various cultures throughout history. They rely on the creation of smoke, typically by burning specific materials, and the manipulation of this smoke into discernible patterns or shapes. These patterns are then interpreted by observers at a distance, conveying messages.

The effectiveness of smoke signals depends on several factors, including visibility, wind conditions, and the knowledge of a shared code between the sender and receiver. Different types of fuel can produce smoke of varying colors and densities, which can be used to add further distinction to the signals.
