Sugamuxi

Sugamuxi was a pre-Columbian Tupi sorcerer, according to Spanish accounts from the 16th century. His name translates to "Beneficent" or "Benefactor" in Tupi language. He was said to be a wise and influential man among his people, able to manipulate and control the settlement's cultural and spiritual aspects.

Sugamuxi's activities are recorded in accounts by Spanish conquistadors to demonstrate their own superiority and justify the conquest of the region. He was portrayed as a charismatic figure who lorded over his people, referring to him as a "cacique" and a ruler of a sort. His connection to the divine forces was supposedly enormous, his strength and authority simulating divinity.

According to historical evidence, Sugamuxi possessed great insight and power. His people reportedly respected and feared him, which facilitated a system where Sugamuxi made decisions that shaped governance, social hierarchy and implications for land.
