Sudomotorische refers to the activity of sweat glands, specifically their innervation and function. The sudomotor system is part of the autonomic nervous system, responsible for regulating body temperature through perspiration. These glands are stimulated by sympathetic nerve fibers, which release acetylcholine as a neurotransmitter. When the body's temperature rises, signals are sent to the sudomotor nerves, causing the sweat glands to produce and release sweat onto the skin's surface. This evaporation process helps to dissipate heat and cool the body.

Disorders affecting the sudomotor system can manifest in various ways. Hypohidrosis is a condition characterized by an inability to sweat normally, which can lead to overheating and heatstroke. Conversely, hyperhidrosis involves excessive sweating beyond what is necessary for thermoregulation, often affecting specific body areas like the palms, soles, or underarms. Neurological conditions such as diabetes, Parkinson's disease, or spinal cord injuries can also impact sudomotor function, leading to abnormal sweating patterns. Evaluating sudomotor function typically involves tests like thermoregulatory sweat testing, quantitative sudomotor axon reflex testing, or thermographic imaging to assess sweat output and distribution. Understanding the sudomotor system is crucial in diagnosing and managing a range of physiological and neurological conditions.
