Substratus

Substratus is a Latin-derived term that appears in various historical and scholarly writings as a descriptor meaning “placed underneath.” It is not commonly used today as a standalone term in modern scientific terminology, and when it does appear, it often functions as a variant or historical synonym of substratum or substrate.

In geology and soil science, substratus has been found in older literature as a reference to the underlying layer that supports overlying sediments, soils, or geological formations.
