Strudsholm

Strudsholm is a historic estate located in the municipality of Holbæk in central Denmark. The property is situated along the northern shore of Lake Slotsbjerg Sø, approximately 30 kilometers west of Copenhagen. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 16th century, though its current appearance reflects significant development over the centuries.

Originally, Strudsholm was a small manor known as *Strudsholmgaard*, mentioned in records as early as 1540. It belonged to the Crown and later passed through various noble families. The estate gained prominence in the 17th century when it was acquired by the nobleman *Jens Holger* and later expanded under his descendants. The name "Strudsholm" likely derives from the Danish words *strud* (meaning "swirl" or "eddy") and *holm* (meaning "island" or "peninsula"), referencing its location near a water body.

In the 18th century, Strudsholm was purchased by the Danish nobleman *Christian Ditlev Frederik Reventlow*, who commissioned the construction of the current main building in the late Baroque style. The estate was further refined in the 19th century, with the addition of a park designed in the English landscape style, featuring winding paths, lakes, and diverse flora. The estate also includes a large farm complex, a chapel, and several outbuildings.

Today, Strudsholm is privately owned and operated as a working farm, specializing in organic agriculture and livestock farming. The estate remains a well-preserved example of Danish rural nobility, blending historical architecture with functional modern farming practices. It is occasionally open to the public for guided tours, offering visitors a glimpse into its historical significance and agricultural heritage. The surrounding landscape continues to be maintained as a picturesque and serene environment.
