Stjörnuleysi, the Icelandic word for "starlessness," refers to a phenomenon where the night sky appears devoid of stars. This can occur for several reasons, primarily atmospheric conditions. Dense cloud cover is the most common culprit, completely obscuring celestial objects from view. Light pollution, particularly in urban or densely populated areas, can also significantly reduce the visibility of stars, making the sky appear "starless" even when clouds are not present.
