Statoil

Statoil was a Norwegian state-owned energy company. It was founded in 1972 as Den norske stats oljeselskap AS, or "the Norwegian state's oil company." The company's primary purpose was to manage Norway's offshore oil and gas resources. Statoil played a significant role in developing Norway's petroleum industry and contributed substantially to the nation's economy.

Over the decades, Statoil expanded its operations beyond Norway, engaging in exploration and production activities in various countries around the world. The company also diversified into renewable energy sources, investing in wind power and other sustainable technologies. In 2018, Statoil merged with the Norwegian oil and gas company Ringholm, and the combined entity was rebranded as Equinor. This rebranding reflected the company's broader focus on energy transition and its ambition to become a more diversified energy provider. The legacy of Statoil continues within Equinor, which remains one of the world's largest offshore energy producers.
