Stabsintervensjon

Stabsintervensjon refers to a medical procedure used to treat acute aortic dissection. This condition occurs when a tear develops in the inner layer of the aorta, the body's largest artery. Blood then surges through the tear, causing the inner and middle layers of the aorta to separate, or dissect. Stabsintervensjon is a type of minimally invasive surgery that aims to repair this dissection.

The procedure typically involves making small incisions, usually in the groin, through which a catheter is inserted. This catheter is guided to the site of the aortic dissection. A stent graft, which is a fabric-covered metal mesh tube, is then deployed within the aorta. This stent graft reinforces the weakened aortic wall and seals off the entry tear, redirecting blood flow through the true lumen of the aorta and preventing further dissection.

Stabsintervensjon offers several advantages over traditional open surgery, including less blood loss, shorter recovery times, and reduced risk of complications. It is particularly beneficial for patients who may not be good candidates for open surgery due to age or other health conditions. However, like any medical procedure, it carries certain risks, and the suitability of stabsintervensjon depends on the specific characteristics of the aortic dissection and the patient's overall health.
