Klaus Störtebeker was a legendary German pirate captain and a prominent figure in the Hanseatic League era. Born around 1360, his exact origins are debated, but he is often associated with Wismar. Störtebeker gained notoriety for his activities in the Baltic Sea and North Sea, leading a group of pirates known as the Vitalienbrüder. This Brotherhood initially operated as privateers supporting the Duke of Mecklenburg against Denmark, but later became outright pirates.
