Sprayszárítók, also known as spray dryers, are industrial devices used to dry a liquid or slurry by atomizing it into a hot drying medium. The process involves spraying the liquid into a chamber where it encounters a hot gas, typically air or nitrogen. The liquid rapidly evaporates, leaving behind dry powder or granules. This method is particularly effective for heat-sensitive materials as the exposure time to high temperatures is very short.

The core components of a spray dryer include a liquid feeding system, a drying chamber, a hot gas inlet, and a product collection system. The liquid is usually pumped and atomized using either a nozzle or a rotary atomizer, creating fine droplets. These droplets are then dispersed into the hot gas stream. As the droplets travel through the chamber, the solvent evaporates, and the solid particles are formed. The dried particles are then separated from the gas, often using cyclones or bag filters.

Spray drying is a versatile technology employed across various industries. In the food industry, it's used for producing milk powders, coffee, instant soups, and flavorings. The pharmaceutical sector utilizes it for creating drug formulations, excipients, and encapsulations. It's also found applications in the chemical industry for producing pigments, catalysts, and detergents, as well as in ceramics for creating fine powders. The ability to control particle size, morphology, and density makes spray drying a valuable technique for tailoring product properties.
