Spektroskopisch

Spektroskopisch is a German adjective meaning spectroscopic. It is used to describe methods, measurements, data, or phenomena that involve spectroscopy—the study of the interaction between matter and electromagnetic radiation as a function of wavelength or frequency.

Spectroscopy relies on absorption, emission, or scattering of light by atoms or molecules. A spectroscopic measurement yields a spectrum, a plot of intensity versus wavelength or frequency. The spectral features (lines, bands, or continua) reveal information about chemical composition, molecular structure, concentration, temperature, and physical state. The term spektroskopisch therefore denotes that the information or result was obtained via, or is interpreted in the context of, spectroscopic data.

Applications span chemistry, physics, astronomy, atmospheric science, materials research, and biology. Examples include identification of substances from their absorption peaks, determination of concentrations via Beer–Lambert law, analysis of stellar atmospheres from spectral lines, and monitoring of industrial processes.

Common spectroscopic techniques include ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, fluorescence and emission spectroscopy, X-ray spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Instruments range from benchtop spectrophotometers to high-resolution spectrographs and detectors such as photodiode arrays and charge-coupled devices.
