Spegelreflexkamera

Spegelreflexkamera is the Swedish term for a single-lens reflex (SLR) camera. This type of camera uses a mirror system to allow the photographer to see the exact image that will be captured by the lens. When the photographer looks through the viewfinder, light enters the lens and is reflected by a mirror onto a prism. This prism then directs the light upwards into the viewfinder eyepiece.

Upon pressing the shutter button, the mirror flips up out of the way, allowing light to pass directly through to the image sensor or film. This mechanism is what distinguishes an SLR from other camera types, such as rangefinder cameras or point-and-shoot cameras. The mirror's movement is also responsible for the characteristic sound of an SLR shutter.

Spegelreflexkameror became widely popular for their versatility and the ability to change lenses. Different lenses offer various focal lengths and apertures, enabling photographers to capture a wide range of subjects and achieve specific artistic effects. This interchangeability of lenses is a key feature that contributed to the SLR's dominance in both amateur and professional photography for many decades. Digital SLR cameras, or DSLRs, have largely replaced film-based models, but the fundamental principle of the mirror system remains the same.
