Solzhenitsyn
Alexander Isaevich Solzhenitsyn was a Russian novelist, historian, and outspoken critic of the Soviet system. Born December 11, 1918, in Kislovodsk, he served as an artillery officer in the Red Army during World War II. After the war, he was arrested for anti-Soviet writings and spent years in the Gulag system and internal exile. Released after Stalin’s death in 1953, he began publishing works that criticized totalitarianism.
