Sokeriosat

Sokeriosat, or sugar residues, are carbohydrate subunits covalently attached to non-carbohydrate moieties in various biomolecules. The term is commonly used in chemistry and biochemistry to describe the glycan portions of glycosides, glycoproteins, and glycolipids, as well as the repeating monosaccharide units in polysaccharides.

In glycosides, the sugar moiety is known as the glycone and the non-sugar portion as the aglycone. Common sugar residues include glucose, galactose, rhamnose, and mannose, among others. The specific composition and linkage pattern of sokeriosat influence properties such as solubility, chemical stability, and biological recognition by enzymes, transporters, and receptors. Analytically, sokeriosat are identified and characterized by enzymatic digestion to release sugars, followed by chromatographic or spectrometric methods, and by nuclear magnetic resonance to determine linkages and sequence.
