Snimati

Snimati is a verb used in Croatian, Serbian, and Bosnian to mean to record or to film with a camera, including video and audio capture. It is an imperfective verb, indicating an ongoing or repeated action; its perfective counterpart is snimiti. In Slovenian, a closely related verb exists as snemati, with the corresponding perfective form posneti. The term is common in media, journalism, and everyday life.

As a transitive verb, snimati typically takes a direct object such as a video, a film, or an event to be recorded. In present tense, Croatian/Serbian/Bosnian forms include: ja snimam, ti snimaš, on snima; mi snimamo, vi snimate, oni snimaju. Past forms use participles such as snimio (masc), snimila (fem), snimili (pl). A standard noun is snimanje, meaning filming or a recording session; a person who operates the camera is called snimatelj (snimateljica for female). In Slovenian, the cognate snemati is used similarly, with posneti as the perfective form.

Usage notes: The verb covers both casual recording with consumer devices and professional film production. The imperfective aspect allows ongoing or repeated filming, while the perfective snimiti (or posneti in Slovenian) marks a completed recording, such as planning to snimiti/dokumentar prep.
