Sliven

Sliven is a city in eastern Bulgaria and the capital of Sliven Province. It is situated in a fertile valley at the foot of the Balkan Mountains, about 270 kilometers east of Sofia and roughly 110 kilometers from Varna. The city experiences a temperate continental climate with hot summers and cold winters.

Historically, Sliven has ancient roots, with Thracian settlements and later Roman presence in the region. The nearby site of the Tuida fortress preserves evidence of early medieval defenses and the area developed into a significant town during the Ottoman era and in modern times. After the Liberation of Bulgaria in 1878, Sliven emerged as an important regional urban center.
