Skolverkets

Skolverket, the Swedish National Agency for Education, is a government agency under the Swedish Ministry of Education and Research. It is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of national education policies and guidelines for preschool through upper secondary education, as well as certain forms of adult education. The agency serves as a central authority for curricula, assessment, and quality assurance within the Swedish school system.

Key tasks include developing and updating the national core curriculum and syllabi, setting guidelines for teaching, and administering national tests where applicable. Skolverket provides information, guidance, and resources to municipalities, schools, and teachers, including digital materials and support for inclusive and effective teaching. It also collects, analyzes, and publishes statistics and reports on educational outcomes, equity, and quality.

The agency operates under the authority of the Ministry of Education and Research and is led by a Director-General. It collaborates with local authorities, schools, teachers, and other public bodies to implement policies, monitor compliance, and promote equal access to high-quality education. Skolverket also coordinates international comparisons and exchanges and contributes to education research and development through funding and dissemination of resources.
