Sklepati

Sklepati is a verb in the Slovene language. It has several meanings, broadly categorized by whether it refers to an action of joining, closing, or concluding.

In its most literal sense, sklepati can mean to join or fasten things together. This could apply to physical objects, such as sklepati dva kosa lesa (to join two pieces of wood). It can also extend metaphorically to abstract concepts, like sklepati sporazum (to conclude an agreement) or sklepati prijateljstvo (to forge a friendship).

Another common meaning of sklepati relates to closing or shutting something. This is often used in contexts like sklepati okno (to close a window) or sklepati vrata (to close a door). In a more figurative sense, it can mean to bring something to an end or to conclude a process, such as sklepati pogajanja (to conclude negotiations) or sklepati zadevo (to close a case).

The verb can also refer to the act of making a deduction or inference. This involves drawing a conclusion based on available evidence or reasoning. For example, sklepati iz dejstev (to infer from the facts) or sklepati, da je nekdo kriv (to conclude that someone is guilty). The past tense forms are sklepam, sklepaš, sklepa, sklepamo, sklepate, sklenejo, and the past participle is sklepal.
