Sitatspråk, also known as citation language or quote language, refers to the practice of using direct or indirect quotations in written or spoken communication to support arguments, provide examples, or convey ideas attributed to another source. This method is widely employed in academic writing, journalism, legal documents, and other formal contexts where precision and credibility are essential.

The primary purpose of sitatspråk is to lend authority to a statement by referencing an external source. Direct quotations involve reproducing the exact words of the original speaker or writer, typically enclosed in quotation marks and properly cited to avoid plagiarism. Indirect quotations, or paraphrasing, summarize or rephrase the original idea while maintaining the original meaning, often without quotation marks but still requiring attribution.

Failure to correctly attribute sources can result in accusations of plagiarism, undermining the integrity of the work.
