Sisäveron

Sisäveron is a term referring to taxes levied on domestic transactions or consumption within a country. These taxes are distinct from import or export duties, which are levied on goods crossing international borders. Sisäveron can encompass a variety of tax types.

One common form of sisäveron is value-added tax (VAT), known as arvonlisävero (ALV) in Finland. VAT is a consumption tax placed on a product whenever value is added at each stage of the supply chain, from production to the point of sale. Another example is excise tax, or valmistevero, which is typically applied to specific goods such as alcohol, tobacco, and fuel. These taxes are often used to discourage consumption of certain products or to generate revenue for specific purposes.

Corporate income tax, or yhteisövero, is also a form of sisäveron, taxing the profits earned by companies operating within the country. Personal income tax, tulovero, levied on individuals' earnings, is another significant domestic tax. Property taxes, kiinteistövero, are also levied on the value of real estate. The specific types and rates of sisäveron vary significantly between countries, reflecting their differing economic policies and revenue needs. The administration and collection of these domestic taxes are typically handled by national tax authorities.
