Silindirin

Silindirin is the Turkish genitive form of the noun silindir, meaning “of the cylinder” or “the cylinder’s.” It is used to express a genitive or possessive relationship within noun phrases, a common feature of Turkish grammar where possession is indicated by suffixes rather than separate possessive pronouns.

The form results from attaching the genitive suffix -in to the stem silindir. Turkish vowel harmony determines the exact suffix, and for silindir the last vowel is i, producing silindirin. The genitive noun can then modify another noun to form phrases such as silindirin kapağı (the cylinder’s lid) or silindirin içi (the inside of the cylinder). The construction is widely used in technical, descriptive, and everyday contexts.

In sentences, silindirin serves to designate ownership or association by the cylinder with the following noun, rather than identifying a human owner. If a human possessor is intended, a different construction is used, for example Ahmetin silindiri (Ahmet’s cylinder). The genitive form is a standard part of Turkish morphology and appears across genres, from manuals to literature.
