Siipijärjestelmä refers to the wing system of an aircraft. It is a crucial component responsible for generating lift, which allows the aircraft to fly. The design and shape of the wing, known as its airfoil, are critical for efficient flight. Airfoils are typically curved on the top surface and flatter on the bottom, causing air to flow faster over the top. This difference in air speed creates lower pressure above the wing and higher pressure below it, resulting in an upward force called lift.

Wings also house control surfaces, such as ailerons, flaps, and slats. Ailerons, located on the trailing edge of the outer wings, are used to control the aircraft's roll. Flaps, also on the trailing edge, can be extended to increase lift and drag, particularly during takeoff and landing, allowing for slower flight speeds. Slats, situated on the leading edge, serve a similar purpose by improving airflow at high angles of attack, preventing stalls.

The size, shape, and configuration of wings vary greatly depending on the aircraft's intended purpose. For example, long, slender wings are common on gliders and long-range airliners for efficiency, while short, swept wings are found on high-speed fighter jets for maneuverability. The materials used in wing construction, such as aluminum alloys, composites, and titanium, are chosen for their strength-to-weight ratio.
