Sidekalvolle
Sidekalvolle is a term sometimes used to refer to the peritoneum, a serous membrane that lines the abdominal cavity and also covers the organs within it. The peritoneum is a thin, transparent layer composed of mesothelium, a type of epithelial cell. It is organized into two main layers: the parietal peritoneum, which lines the abdominal wall, and the visceral peritoneum, which covers the surfaces of most abdominal organs. Between these two layers is a potential space called the peritoneal cavity, which normally contains a small amount of lubricating fluid. This fluid allows the organs to move and slide against each other smoothly during digestive processes and other bodily functions. The peritoneum plays a crucial role in the stability and support of abdominal organs, as well as in immune defense and fluid balance within the abdominal cavity. Inflammation of the peritoneum is known as peritonitis, which can be a serious medical condition.
