Sichotella

Sichotella is a genus of marine bacteria belonging to the family Flavobacteriaceae. These are typically rod-shaped, Gram-negative bacteria that are often found in marine environments, including coastal waters and sediments. The genus was first described in 2003 with the isolation of the type species, Sichotella telluris, from an oyster farm.

Members of Sichotella are characterized by their ability to break down complex organic compounds, playing a role in nutrient cycling within marine ecosystems. They are often facultative anaerobes, meaning they can survive and grow in the presence or absence of oxygen. Their metabolic capabilities can vary, with some species exhibiting pigment production, contributing to the coloration of their colonies.
