Shakean
Shakean is a character from the biblical Book of Kings. He is identified as the father of Hazael, who later became the king of Aram-Damascus. The Book of Kings mentions Shakean in the context of Jehu's anointing as king of Israel. Elisha the prophet, following God's command, sent a young man to anoint Jehu, son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, as king. During this mission, Elisha instructed the young man to go to Ramoth-gilead and find Jehu. It is in this narrative that Shakean is briefly referenced as Hazael's father. Little else is known about Shakean himself, as his significance in the biblical text lies solely in his paternal relationship to Hazael, a prominent figure in the history of ancient Israel and Aram. Hazael's reign as king of Aram-Damascus was marked by significant conflict with Israel, and his actions are detailed in several passages of the Books of Kings and Chronicles.
