The primary setningarhlutum include the subject (viðfangsefni), which typically denotes who or what performs the action or is in a certain state; the predicate (sögn), which expresses the action or state of being; and the object (andlag), which receives the action of the verb. Objects can be direct (bein andlag) or indirect (óbein andlag).
