Selkäydinhermojen, also known as spinal nerves, are a crucial component of the peripheral nervous system. They originate from the spinal cord and extend to various parts of the body, providing both sensory and motor functions. There are 31 pairs of spinal nerves in the human body, each corresponding to a specific segment of the spinal cord. These nerves are responsible for transmitting signals between the spinal cord and the rest of the body, enabling movement, sensation, and reflex actions.

Each spinal nerve is composed of a dorsal root, which carries sensory information from the body to the spinal cord, and a ventral root, which carries motor commands from the spinal cord to the muscles and glands.
