Selfsticking

Selfsticking is a term used to describe an object or material that adheres to a surface or itself without the need for external adhesives, such as glue or tape. This property is often achieved through the inherent characteristics of the material itself or through specific surface treatments.

One common mechanism for selfsticking is the presence of microscopic structures on the surface of the material. These structures, often resembling hairs or hooks, can create Van der Waals forces when brought into close proximity with another surface. This principle is famously observed in the adhesive properties of gecko feet, which allow them to cling to smooth vertical surfaces.

Another method involves materials that exhibit tackiness or a natural adhesive quality. Certain polymers, for instance, can be formulated to be inherently sticky at room temperature. This tackiness allows them to form a bond with other surfaces through intermolecular forces.
