Scillonian

Scillonian is the demonym for a resident of the Isles of Scilly, an archipelago off the southwestern tip of Cornwall, England. The Isles are a civil parish consisting of five inhabited islands—St Mary’s, Tresco, St Martin’s, St Agnes, and Bryher—together with numerous smaller islets and rocks.

The term derives from the name Scilly and is used in English to describe people connected with the islands. It can appear in cultural, historical, and contemporary contexts as the identifier for locals or things associated with the Isles of Scilly.

In addition to its use as a demonym, Scillonian is also the name of several ships in the fleet of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company. These vessels have provided the principal passenger service between the island group and the mainland, particularly the route between Penzance and the Isles of Scilly. The most widely known contemporary bearer of the name is Scillonian III, a passenger ferry that operates on that route and forms a key part of local transport and tourism.
