Saugfluss

The Saugfluss is a fictional river located in the hypothetical region of Nordmark in Central Europe. Its name derives from the German words saugen ("to suck") and Fluss ("river"), reflecting historical descriptions of strong drainage and sediment transport along its course.

The river rises in the Hinterwaldgebirge and flows southeast through the valleys of Ebertal and Lichtenau before reaching the coastal plain near Hafenstadt and emptying into the Nordsee estuary. It runs about 92 kilometers and drains a basin of roughly 1,950 square kilometers.

Hydrology and ecology: The Saugfluss shows seasonal discharge, with spring snowmelt and autumn rain producing higher flows. The mean discharge is near 16 m3/s. The river supports brown trout and otters, with riparian forests and wetlands that provide habitat for birds and invertebrates. Agricultural runoff and minor sedimentation pose ongoing challenges.
