Sattelgelenks
Sattelgelenks, also known as saddle joints, are a type of synovial joint found in the human body. They are characterized by a reciprocal, saddle-shaped articulation between two bones. This unique shape allows for a wide range of motion, but limits rotation. Each bone surface has a convex and a concave portion, fitting together like a rider on a saddle. This anatomical configuration provides stability while permitting movement in two planes: flexion-extension and adduction-abduction.
The most prominent example of a saddle joint in the human body is the carpometacarpal joint of
