Saprissa

Deportivo Saprissa Fútbol Club, commonly known as Saprissa, is a professional football club based in Tibás, a district of San José, Costa Rica. Founded in 1935 by a group of local enthusiasts, the club competes in the Primera División de Costa Rica and is widely regarded as one of the country’s most successful teams. The team’s colors are purple, and they are commonly referred to as Los Morados.

Home matches are played at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa, located in Tibás. The venue is named in honor of a Costa Rican football figure associated with the club and has a capacity of around 23,000.

Saprissa has won numerous domestic league titles and cups, contributing to its status as a premier footballing institution in Costa Rica. In regional competition, Saprissa has captured multiple CONCACAF club championships and is noted for its success in the region. The club made history as the first Central American team to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, appearing in 2005.

Several players who began or rose to prominence at Saprissa went on to international fame, including Keylor Navas, Paulo Wanchope, and Walter Centeno. The club continues to develop talent for the Costa Rica national team and competes in national and international competitions.
