Sandwell

Sandwell is a large, densely populated, and diverse metropolitan borough in the West Midlands of England. It was formed in 1974 through the amalgamation of six existing local government districts: the County Borough of Smethwick, the County Borough of Warley, the County Borough of West Bromwich, and the urban districts of Oldbury, Rowley Regis, and Tipton. The borough lies to the west of Birmingham and is part of the Birmingham conurbation. Sandwell's administrative centre is located in West Bromwich.

The borough is characterised by a mix of industrial heritage and modern development. Historically, the area was a significant centre for coal mining, iron, and steel production, and manufacturing industries such as glass, nails, and textiles. While many of these heavy industries have declined, Sandwell has adapted and is now home to a diverse economic base including services, retail, and advanced manufacturing.

Sandwell's population is notable for its ethnic diversity, with significant communities from South Asian, African, and Caribbean backgrounds contributing to its cultural landscape.
