Sandwell is a large, densely populated, and diverse metropolitan borough in the West Midlands of England. It was formed in 1974 through the amalgamation of six existing local government districts: the County Borough of Smethwick, the County Borough of Warley, the County Borough of West Bromwich, and the urban districts of Oldbury, Rowley Regis, and Tipton. The borough lies to the west of Birmingham and is part of the Birmingham conurbation. Sandwell's administrative centre is located in West Bromwich.
