Sandvikens

Sandvikens is a locality and the administrative center of Sandviken Municipality, Gävleborg County, Sweden. It is situated in the northern part of the province of Gästrikland, approximately 20 kilometers west of the city of Gävle. The town is located on the shore of Lake Storsjön, a significant waterway in the region.

Historically, Sandvikens grew around the Sandvik steel mill, which was established in 1862 by Göran Fredrik Göransson. This company, now known as Sandvik AB, became a major global industrial player, particularly in the fields of mining and rock excavation, metalworking, and materials technology. The presence of the steel mill was the primary driver of the town's development and population growth throughout the late 19th and 20th centuries.
